 Action Leads to Motivation

What if the simple act of doing just one small thing could spark your motivation to achieve much bigger goals? As a health coach and personal trainer, I often hear clients say they need motivation before starting something new when working towards their health goals. This lack of initial motivation frequently stands in the way of accomplishing goals, especially when it comes to adopting healthier habits.

Taking on healthy lifestyle changes can feel daunting. Not knowing where to begin often leaves people feeling stuck and unmotivated. So, how do you get started? Consider the idea from the first sentence: “What if the simple act of doing just one small thing could spark your motivation to achieve much bigger goals?” Imagine picking a single, manageable action—something you have complete control over—that sets you on the path toward a healthier life.

Ask yourself: What could that one action be? How might you incorporate it into your daily routine? How will you measure your success? What will it look and feel like as you continue? And, over time, what impact might this one action have on you and your health?

When working with clients, I encourage them to select a single, simple task that aligns with their overall health goals. Once they consistently complete this task each week, it begins to form an essential step toward reaching their goals. As one habit solidifies, we introduce another, gradually building a foundation of actionable, achievable habits. By progressing in this way, healthy lifestyle goals become less intimidating, and people find themselves motivated to make even more positive changes.

Now you try! Choose one simple action you can do today to move toward your health goals. Spend a week or two focusing on this task, then reflect: Did this action motivate you to keep going? Are you building a habit? How do you feel? What positive changes have you noticed? Do you need to stick with this action longer, or can you build on it and add something new?

Keep things simple, small, and achievable. By taking these steps, you’ll be motivated to continue making healthy changes.
